SUMMARY:CE: Reflected Solar Energy of Glazing Systems in Buildings
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a strategic virtual Continuing Education session presented in partnership with the National Glass Association. When a curved glass tower in Las Vegas gained notoriety as the “Death Ray” for generating temperatures capable of melting pool umbrellas\, it provided our local industry with a quantifiable\, high-profile case study on the severe consequences of unmitigated solar reflection. Concave façades can focus reflected sunlight mathematically similarly to a magnifying glass\, and even flat\, uncoated glazing reflects a baseline percentage of solar radiation. This session systematically breaks down the physics behind reflected solar energy\, analyzing how sun angles\, building orientation\, material variables\, and glazing performance metrics intersect to determine the trajectory and intensity of reflected heat and light. \nBy understanding these environmental and architectural variables\, AIA\, Assoc. AIA\, and Allied members will gain the analytical tools necessary to transform our built environment safely. Attendees will leave with practical\, data-driven design considerations for site planning\, material selection\, and glazing specification. This proactive approach empowers our design community to mitigate solar reflectivity risks long before construction begins\, ensuring that our projects elevate rather than negatively impact their surrounding public spaces. \nSpeakers:\nRaymond Roy\nRegional Technical Advisor – Guardian Glass \nSara Neiswanger\nDirector of Membership – National Glass Association

SUMMARY:Restore & Reconnect: Morning Wellness with the AIA Las Vegas Placemaking Committee
DESCRIPTION:Transforming the built environment requires vision\, dedication\, and sustained energy. After a demanding week of designing\, planning\, and advocating for our communities\, it is essential to invest in your own physical and mental foundation. The AIA Las Vegas Placemaking Committee warmly invites all AIA\, Assoc. AIA\, and Allied members to join us for an exclusive\, restorative morning wellness session guided by expert practitioner Amy Peters. \nThis strategic wellness initiative is engineered specifically for design professionals to promote gentle physical opening\, deep relaxation\, and the restoration of systemic balance. Recognizing that our members possess diverse needs\, mobility levels\, and wellness goals\, we have structured the morning to include multiple modalities. This ensures every participant can find a practice that adds quantifiable value to their weekend recovery. \nWhen confirming your attendance\, please indicate which kind of yoga you would like to participate in. There will be chair yoga\, adult yoga\, breathwork and meditation available to promote gentle opening\, relaxation and to restore balance. *Please bring your own mat. \nCome decompress with your colleagues\, network in a tranquil environment\, and transition into your weekend with intentionality. Let us clear our minds and restore our bodies so we can continue to shape a visionary future for Las Vegas.
